Kristina & Steffen – A Vow Renewal and a Blessing
What do you do if your religious beliefs are very important to you but your Church wont bless your marriage? Even though Kristina and Steffen are both Christians, they are members of different faiths and neither of their churches would bless their German Registry Office marriage. They contacted me from Germany and asked if I could organise a Vow Renewal Ceremony for them while they were on their honeymoon in Western Australia and would I be willing to include some religious elements in that ceremony. Of course I would.
For me it’s all about what my couples want and what will make their day special and complete. I really want to be the best marriage celebrant for my couples so after a chat with them on WhatsApp I suggested they bring one of their grandparent’s bibles with them, upon which they could swear their renewed vows. They loved the idea.
My next challenge was to find a church, some kangaroos along with typical Perth landmarks to include in a few photos, before we headed to the beach for the ceremony. Not a problem if you have loads of time, but we were on a very tight time schedule! And, it was google maps that helped me plan our route. But, I also wanted to organise a surprise for them if I could. I knew it would mean the world to them if I could organise a church blessing for them so after some thought I decided to ask the Reverend Rae at St George’s Cathedral if she would be happy to conduct a blessing for them. She was! (What a lovely lady she is! ☺) It was a wonderful little ceremony in an otherwise empty Cathedral – very special, and Kristina and Steffen were beyond happy!
On the way to the beach we found an obliging kangaroo on Heirisson Island and got our iconic Perth backgrounds.
A beautiful 4-Poster Arbour decorated the beach when we arrived and we felt we were alone there with the sounds of the ocean and the seagulls. Kristina and Steffen had also liked the idea of a Handfasting Ceremony that included all of their family! Their family and friends had all sent ribbons with their best wishes written on them, so we could tie these wishes into the Handfasting Knot. As the sun was setting, Kristina and Steffen renewed their wedding vows, with their hands placed on the Bible Steffen’s Parent’s had been given for their vows, on their wedding day. Magic and very meaningful. Then it was time to sit down for a delicious 3-course meal with twinkling fairy lights all around. Stunningly romantic and inspirational for us all.
Their romantic Honeymoon continued across Australia and on to New Zealand fulfilling so many bucket-list wishes and creating even more – for next time!
Thanks Kristina and Steffen for asking me to be your marriage celebrant and for the huge compliment of being the best celebrant in Perth! I’m so super happy that you were happy xx
